Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

• What are the minimum requirements to use the app?

  Pace Control requires Android 6 (Marshmallow) or later. Your device also must have a GPS receiver to get your current position. Internet connection is not necessary. When offline, the app will work correctly, but with some functionality not available.

• What privileges are required by the app and what are they used for?

  The app uses the following permissions:

  • Precise location (GPS) - used to determine your location so that the app can calculate how fast you are running.
  • Notifications - used to display current information about an ongoing workout and, very occasionally, other messages.
  • Other minor permissions do not require user consent and are used for technical purposes or are related to displaying ads.

• How to switch from kilometers to miles? I want my pace in min/mile and distance in miles!

  You can change it in settings, see Units option.

• Why doesn't the app send data to some server where I could view and analyze my workouts and share them with friends? How can I sync Pace Control with social media so that my friends can see how much I run?

  Pace Control was not designed to be a social platform or a tool for analyzing recorded workouts, and it probably never will be. We believe it is better for an app to do fewer things, but do them really well. We created Pace Control to help you control your running pace and follow your planned race or workout strategy. That is what we focus on. If you miss social or analytical features, you can either enable workout export to external services such as Strava, which Pace Control can integrate with, or run another running app alongside ours. Android allows multiple apps to share GPS readings, so using several workout tracking apps at the same time is not a problem.

• Voice feedback does not work correctly. Voice quality is poor, sometimes messages are lost and I do not hear them at all. What is the problem and how to solve it?

  Probably a text-to-speech engine installed on your phone is not configured correctly. Please, read troubleshooting voice feedback page and do everything as suggested there. It should help.

• Why does my phone think that it plays music when I use Pace Control?

  This is required for headset buttons to work. Otherwise the phone would not let Pace Control know when buttons are pressed.

• The app is not translated to my native language, why?

  If you are a native speaker of any language not supported by Pace Control and you want to help us with translating the app to this language, please, contact us. We believe we can make it together! Note, that in order to let the app speak (voice feedback) in any language, this language must be supported by Text-to-speech engine by Google.
