Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

• What are the minimum requirements to use the app?

  Pace Control requires Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) or later. Your device also must have a GPS receiver to get your current position. Internet connection is not necessary, the app will work correctly when offline.

• What privileges are required by the app and what are they used for?

  The app requires the following privileges:

  • precise location (GPS and network-based) - used to get your location, so that the app knows how fast you run.
  • read the contents of your USB storage - access to USB storage is required to import workouts from a file saved on your device which will probably be located in a directory inaccessible to the app without this permission.
  • full network access, view network connections - required to load maps, display ads and export workout data to external running services. Refer to our privacy policy to read more. The app does not connect to the Internet for any other purpose.
  • prevent phone from sleeping - prevents network connection (required in remote race mode) from disconnecting when the phone screen is off.

  Additionally for Android version prior to 4.4 (KitKat) the following permissions are required. They are not requested for Android 4.4 and above:

  • modify or delete the contents of your USB storage - access to USB storage is required to create logs in the external storage i.e. location accessible when you plug your phone to a PC via USB cable.

• How to switch from kilometers to miles? I want my pace in min/mile and distance in miles!

  You can change it in settings, see Units option.

• Why the app does not send data to some server where I can see all the details and analyze my run? How to synchronize the app with Facebook so that my friends can see how far I run?

  Pace Control is not intended and probably will never be a social platform or a data analysis tool. We believe that it is better if the app does less, but does it very well. Pace Control was created to let you control your running pace and help you run according to your plan. This is what we concentrate on. If you miss social or data analysis features, you can start some other favorite app together with Pace Control and let them both track your run in the same time. Android makes it possible for multiple apps to use GPS simultaneously, so there is no problem in doing that.

• Voice feedback does not work correctly. Voice quality is poor, sometimes messages are lost and I do not hear them at all. What is the problem and how to solve it?

  Probably a text-to-speech engine installed on your phone is not configured correctly. Please, read troubleshooting voice feedback page and do everything as suggested there. It should help.

• Why does my phone think that it plays music when I use Pace Control?

  This is required for headset buttons to work. Otherwise the phone would not let Pace Control know when buttons are pressed.

• The app is not translated to my native language, why?

  If you are a native speaker of any language not supported by Pace Control and you want to help us with translating the app to this language, please, contact us. We believe we can make it together! Note, that in order to let the app speak (voice feedback) in any language, this language must be supported by Text-to-speech engine by Google.
